Recipe as shown in Picture: Slow Cooker Wild Rice Blend with Squash and Pecans

While this recipe can be done on a stovetop with extra attention to each ingredient it is totally unnecessary. Go ahead and prepare other dishes as the slow cooker turns our wild rice blend into an unforgettable side dish. The nutty crunch of wild rice mixed with chewy brown and red rice combines into a complex, hearty blend that pairs well with proteins and vegetables.

Serves 6

  • 1 Cup Wild Rice Blend

  • 2 Cups Chicken Or Vegetable Broth

  • 1 Small Butternut Squash, peeled and diced into 1" pieces

  • 1 Cup Medium Pecan Pieces, toasted

  • 1 Small Onion, diced

  • 1 Medium Carrot, peeled and diced

  • 4 Celery Stalks, diced

  • 4 Cloves Of Garlic

  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Thyme Leaves, chopped

  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Sage, chopped

  • 1 Tablespoon Smoked Sweet Paprika

  • 1 Tablespoon Butter

  • 1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon Honey

  • 1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt

  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper


  1. Add all ingredients to a slow cooker and stir for 10 seconds. Set the temperature to low, cover and wait 60-70 minutes.

  2. Turn off the cooker and leave covered for 10 minutes before fluffing the rice and serving.

Rinse and combine 1 cup Wild Rice Blend with 2-1/4 cups water and bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until tender, about 40 minutes.
